Contemporary conflicts are fought simultaneously on military, diplomatic and informational fronts. Political actors seek not only to control territory and resources, but also to define the meaning of events, establish credible accounts of responsibility and influence domestic and international audiences. Artificial intelligence, social media platforms and algorithmic systems have expanded the scale and speed of this struggle, enabling new forms of strategic communication, persuasion and deception.
The panel explores the relationship between AI, political communication, international relations and international conflict. It welcomes papers on competing narratives of war and peace, digitally mediated diplomacy, algorithmic visibility, synthetic content, disinformation, platform power and the role of non-state actors in shaping international public opinion. It asks how these developments affect democratic deliberation, foreign-policy decision-making, international legitimacy and possibilities for conflict resolution. By bringing together research from international relations, political communication and technology studies, the panel seeks to clarify how wars are narrated, whose accounts acquire authority and how emerging communication practices reshape global politics.
