The panel examines the role of the EU's external actions in global governance. The increasing complexity of world politics raises questions about the EU's goals and tools for navigating a tense international security environment. How does this complexity impact the institutions, structures, and decision-making processes in the EU? How does the EU engage with other international actors, from states such as the US, China, India, to other international organizations such as NATO, ASEAN, the AU, or informal and ad hoc arrangements? How does this engagement impact its policies, from CFSP/CSDP to energy, climate, or trade policies, and viceversa? This panel seeks to investigate variation in the EU's strategies, preferences, and influence on global governance. To do so, it welcomes paper proposals with a variety of perspectives, policy and geographical focus, as well as methodological and theoretical approaches. Paper proposals that aim to de-centre the study of the EU are particularly welcome.
