Political polarisation is a wide-spread phenomenon around the globe. Public bodies are under increasing strain due to public contestation whilst acting under tightening budgets and geopolitical uncertainties. Which new responses to interact with citizens - to increase policy effectiveness, legitimacy and sustainability - emerge, have shown success or failed? We invite both conceptional and empirical studies from different political context, as well as comparative perspectives that analyse these guiding questions and explore dynamics such as active citizen participation or, conversely, closure of processes for citizens.
