Artificial Intelligence, and particularly Generative AI (GenAI), is rapidly transforming scholarly communication and academic publishing. AI-assisted tools are entering different stages of the publication process, from writing, translation, and literature review to manuscript assessment, peer review, editorial workflows, and research dissemination. These developments create new opportunities while challenging established norms concerning authorship, originality, transparency, research integrity, and accountability.
At the same time, journals, publishers, scholarly associations, and academic institutions are developing policies and practices to govern the use of AI, raising broader questions about the changing roles of authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers, as well as the place of human expertise and judgment in increasingly AI-assisted publishing processes.
This panel welcomes contributions from researchers examining these transformations, as well as from journal editors, publishers, and other actors directly involved in scholarly communication. It invites theoretical and empirical research alongside contributions reflecting on emerging editorial practices, policies, and experiences. Relevant topics include AI-assisted authorship; peer review and manuscript assessment; editorial workflows; research integrity and disclosure; journal and publisher policies; multilingualism and accessibility; and the changing roles and responsibilities of actors in scholarly publishing.
